I have been unemployed for 1 year. ...I live in NV. I have been unemployed for 1 year. There are 372,675 jobless Nevadans and the State Job Center has 1300 jobs posted - mostly in the low-end service industry. How can these block head congressional people think for one second that a $400/week check will cause me to get lazy and quit looking for work because life is so good? My mortgage alone is $2300/mo. All the $400/week does for me is pay for a little gas to get to interviews - Alas, there ARE NO INTERVIEWS AVAILABLE! I'm 63 with advanced degrees and a substantial salary history. I have no idea how to flip burgers and all the WalMart greeter jobs are taken.

There is no reality in DC. The country is in a Deep Six mode because these idiots do not know their proverbial you-know-whats from a hole in the ground. I hope they're ready to see very long lines at the welfare offices, large requests from States to bolster their food stamp programs, and LOTS more foreclosures. To say nothing of all of those unemployment office workers that were hired to handle the record number of benefit applications that have been coming down the tubes.

It just feels like the country has gone stark raving crazy - there is absolutely no hope for us in site. It's like the boat owner in Louisiana said - "the oil spill is a blessing to us. We had no work and now we have paying work."

Can't have a deep-sea oil spill in NV, so I guess we'll all just have to queue for foodstamps.Gswartznoreply@blogger.com
